Schedule of Walks during 2008

2008 was another good year where we managed to undertake eleven monthly walks, with the just the April walk being rained off.  The Christmas walk, on 18th January, once again attracted a good attendance of nineteen walkers, with the group retiring to the Royal Oak after the walk for our annual Christmas Meal.  In addition to the meal, Colin held his annual fancy dress competition with the theme of Trees, which was won by Graham and Maureen in partnership dressed as 'The Upton Pines'.  Brenda gave us a nice surprise on the July walk when she served us all with strawberries and cream, together with a 'glass' of wine on one of our stops, to celebrate her birthday - Thanks, Brenda.  We had another surprise on the September walk when, on reaching our intended lunch spot at Dinger Tor, we found the Army had beaten us to it and had set up camp with a couple of tents and were armed with rifles.  It seems as though they were there as a checkpoint for the cadets who were out on a yomp.  They were, however, happy to share the tor with us while we sat and ate our lunch.

The details of our walks during 2008 are shown below:
